Performance Seating Companies
4. Allsteel - This is not as well known a brand, at least compared to a Knoll or Herman Miller, but do make a number of quality products. Allsteel has not had a hit chair, like the Aeron, but they are still worth considering.
5. Humanscale - This is not specifically a seating company or even a office systems manufacturer- they specialize in ergonomic products. They have come out with some chairs though, specifically the Freedom and the Liberty.
6. Haworth - This is another company without the big brand name but their Zody chair has been developing a following. They offer a full line of office products so their focus is not necessarily on seating, but they have come out with some interesting models.
There you go- six great seating companies. That is by no means an exhaustive list but if you are looking for some seating for yourself or your company you should have no problem finding products from one of these six. Even if you don't want to buy one of the better know chairs, like the Aeron or Life, there are a lot of options out there- that $50 chair from Staples is not one of them.
That brings up one of the more important points of performance seating- you don't have to spend a thousand dollars to get a good chair, but quality costs money. There is a reason why big companies are willing to spend vast sums of money on great seating. There are also reasons why an inexpensive chair from your typical office supply superstore is not the answer to your seating questions. These inexpensive models may look like what you need, but the chance that they are actually addressing the ergonomic and comfort issues that they should is limited.
